The Reason We Ride
On January 9, 2026, Gary Hickey — the longtime chef and partner at Charro Steak — left work feeling off. By the time he reached the hospital, he couldn't get out of his car.
Within an hour, he was paralyzed from the chest down. Doctors found a rare stroke that had localized to his thoracic spinal cord. At 50 years old, in the prime of his career, the man Tucson knew for cutting steaks and feeding his city couldn't move his legs.
Today, Gary is walking with a cane. He's home. He's fighting every single day in physical therapy with his sights set on one thing — getting back to his kitchen, his crew, and his life.
But the road ahead requires more than what insurance covers. Gary is pursuing specialized spinal cord stroke recovery — advanced treatments like epidural stimulation and spinal procedures available through cutting-edge clinics. These treatments offer the best chance of full recovery, and they're not cheap.
That's where we come in. Tucson takes care of its own. And on July 26, we're throwing the kind of night Gary would throw for any one of us — Vegas style, full house, no shortage of suits.
In His Own Words
“I'm a gambler. I know I've got the best hand right now”
Our Goal
$100,000
Every dollar raised goes directly to Gary's recovery treatment, equipment, and care.
The Setup
Vegas under the desert sky. No auctioneer. No long speeches. Just gaming, dancing, eating, and giving — the way it should be.

Real dealers, real tables. Blackjack, craps, roulette, poker. Every chip in play donates to Gary. End-of-night chip stacks convert to prize raffle entries.

Open-format DJ all night. Disco, funk, country crossover, modern hits — the kind of mix that gets a 50-year-old chef and his line cooks on the floor together.

A roving food experience featuring Tucson's finest restaurants — Gary's people, feeding Gary's people. Stations open through the night, with late-night trail rations at 10pm.

Themed cocktails, premium pours, signature shots named for Gary. A portion of every drink goes to the cause.

Scan a QR code, give from your phone, watch your name climb the projected board. No microphones, no interruptions — pure friendly competition.

Step-and-repeat backdrop, props, and a pro photographer all night. Wear your boots, your sequins, your boldest take on Space Cowboy.

Space Cowboy means formal with flair. Sequins, boots, bolo ties, fringe, metallics — go bold or go home.
